Jamie, and all the MNCA, Happy New Year to you and all your families.
As we all know, the demands of the political life can take a toll on family life.
Thank you for all the many messages of support to me over the last few years, which have not been easy.
I wanted to let you know that over Christmas I finally got down on bended knee and proposed to Fiona, who has now put up with me through the last four quite tough years. (And is one of those all-too-few who still think Parliament, politics and public service is the highest calling). (Fiona is a theatre Director by profession - her current production of The Merry Wives of Windsor is about to finish its sell-out run at the RSC).
Many of you have met through our various mutual friends in East Anglia but I look forward to introducing you to the new Mrs F in due course.
We’ve just had a lovely New Year with Frank (16) and Ruby (18) doing their GCSE and A Levels this year, and we’re now looking into trying to buy a house that they can each have their own room in.
Very best wishes for a very Happy New Year.
Yours,
George
